VÄSTERVIK, SWEDEN — Swedish maintenance contractor Hallens Gruppen has modernized its street-cleaning fleet by pairing a Trombia T220 sweeper attachment with a JCB 437 wheel loader, delivering cleaner streets in fewer passes across the municipality of Västervik. The combo is featured in a recent customer story video that shows the system at work on urban routes and busy public areas.

“Previously we had to sweep the same spots 3–4 times, now we can do it with one pass,” says Victor Hallen of Hallens Gruppen, who oversees sweeping in Västervik. The result is higher productivity with visibly better pick-up, especially on stubborn material.

The challenge

Hallens Gruppen needed to raise cleaning quality without adding labor hours or fuel-intensive runs. Spring grit, construction debris and fine dust were recurring pain points—particularly the ultra-fine particles that are hard to capture with conventional suction sweepers. The team also wanted a solution that could integrate with its existing loader fleet rather than a dedicated truck unit.

The solution

The company adopted the Trombia T220—a high-performance sweeper attachment that converts heavy wheel loaders into full-scale city sweepers. Trombia’s approach combines a powerful mechanical broom for debris, an airknife for detaching fine dust, and a filterless cyclone for dust control, and it mounts to loaders (8.5-ton+ operating weight) using auxiliary hydraulics. The setup allows contractors to leverage loaders they already own while gaining PM2.5-grade sweeping capability. Trombia

In Västervik, the T220 is paired with a JCB 437 loader—an agile, high-capacity platform that provides the hydraulic power and stability needed for municipal sweeping duty. The customer story footage highlights the pairing clearing curbs, intersections, and parking edges with confident, single-pass collection.

Results Hallens Gruppen is seeing

Fewer passes, faster routes. With the T220, operators report achieving in one pass what previously required multiple passes—freeing capacity for more lane-kilometers per shift and reducing congestion in busy zones.

Cleaner finish, less rework. The attachment’s combined air-and-mechanical method lifts embedded fines and heavier debris (like winter grit and light industrial waste), improving end-of-route cleanliness and cutting return visits.

Sustainability gains built in. Trombia’s technology is engineered to slash resource use compared to traditional heavy suction sweepers—up to 90% less energy and up to 95% less water, while capturing PM2.5 dust that affects air quality. For operators, that means lower operating costs with a smaller environmental footprint.

Why it matters

Municipalities and contractors are under pressure to do more with less—short seasons, staff constraints, tighter budgets, and rising sustainability targets. Hallens Gruppen’s move shows how a loader-mounted sweeper can deliver truck-sweeper performance without the capital and utilization challenges of a dedicated vehicle—especially in Nordic conditions where versatility is king.
